Trace is a project by PhD researcher Joanne Hodge, which aims to connect parent and child through co-designed personal communication objects. It is a unique and engaging project that integrates approaches from textile design, interaction design and service design.
Trace focuses on how these co-designed digitally tagged toys and Trace App can be used to reinforce the parent/child attachment when separated from one another due to situational factors such as work, illness and divorce. Parent and child have the ability to emotionally connect through networked objects that are integrated with smart textiles and wearable technologies. This aims to strengthen bonds of their relationships whilst apart and reduce separation anxiety within children through interacting with the objects.
